Jigging up a Lake Michigan Grand Slam
Had another fantastic morning trip today even though it started off slow going 1-3 in the Milwaukee harbor while trolling Berkley flicker shad and flicker minnows. It didn't take very long to abandon that idea and make a run to my home waters. Once we got to where I wanted to be, we worked a thick mud line and my two clients went 11 for ?? They landed three brown trout trolling, one being 12lbs and then laid into browns, steelhead and chinooks with my 13 Fishing Omen Black and Muse while jigging. I pulled out the centerpin and floated an alewife that my client hooked and it only took 5mins to bow up with a coho for the Lake Michigan grand slam! The lake has flipped in the Milwaukee area and there is an abundance of ice cold water in close to shore with vast amounts of bait and fish. The big fish of the day was a 18lb lake trout that my client bowed up with within 10mins of jigging. At first I thought it was a massive brown trout but once in the net, I almost fell over when I saw it was a huge laker. After spending a few minutes in the frabill she was ready to go back to the depths and was successfully released.
