I just spent the past 5 days in the middle of nowhere Minnesota pre fishing then fishing the 2017 North American Ice Fishing Circuit National Championship. Day one sucked, I mean sucked. We had some of the best gills out of anyone (2.5lbs worth) but we were only able to find 3 out of our 8 crappies. Day two was a beat down. We had our 8 and 8 by 9am and kept upgrading throughout the day. Seeing we started in 48th place Sunday, I decided to go big or go home and used a Rapala Slab Rap for most of the day. Good thing I did, because our big fish (1.2lb crappie) came off of it. It was pretty stupid that even 5-8'' bluegills were biting it on the front treble hook. Day two we put up a bucket of 10.92lbs for 16th biggest bucket of the day and jumped 12 spots for overall to 36. Not our best showing but none the less was fun and a learning experience. Now possible a little steelhead/brown fishing this week before the cold snap comes back this weekend
